Just wondering?

so does anyone know a new carb and new valve cover PN's?

  3. tone: Unfortunatly, GM Rochester does not make the 2G anymore. Not a big deal though, because as long as the carb has no pitting inside due to water, it can be rebuilt forever. The reason is that the base plate is cast iron. The throttle shafts wear in time and they can be replaced or the bore itself bored and rebushed and a new shaft and butterflies installed. This is best left to a pro carb shop that has the boreing tools and parts. I'm going to have mine done here in Havasu, even though I've rebuilt dozens of them, to make sure the shafts are OK.

There are 2 replacement carbs out there that work fine, but need base adaptors, again, no big deal. They are the Motorcraft (Ford) #6-289 and the Holly #2300. I've got the Holly as a spare if I don't like the results of my 2G rebuild.

Why do you need new valve covers? If they are indented at the screw holes, just put them on a 1/2"x1" piece of flat steel to use as a mandrel, and tap them flat again. Don't tighten them too much next time, or they will deforme again.

heres a pic of the valve covers there like bowed on the side and ive tryed to hammer them back before but they just keep bending back and i figure that that might have a little part in blowing the gaskets.....

tone, yeah those valve covers are trouble. Best bet is to score a set of straight used ones, and I have a pair that I'd be willing to deal if you need. :stout:
