Fitting a style bar

OK, I know it is not a true roll bar. But, I'd feel safer with it on than off. It seems that I have a lot of leeway in where I punch holes through the rear wheel housings. Any guidance on where the "right" place is?

For those of you that go for pics:

I think that the reason that has not occurred to me yet is that I do not have a windshield fitted. (Where did I put that bikini...?)

    Hey, JZ !
My "style bar" is about 3 inches taller than windshield... So I haven't put in on yet. Does that matter? Bob in Arkansas

Shouldn't. Soft top bows are generally taller than the W/S...

Wondering if anyone knows how much space there is from the rear or the jeep to the back of the roll bar. I am putting one in on my 1969 CJ5. I want to make sure the soft top will fit.
    Thanks in advance

I just have the single tube in the rear, so top fitment is not an issue..

Draw an imaginary line from the top of the top tube to the front edge of the hood. That will be the plane of the ground if you wind up upside down. If possible, place the roll bar forward enough to make sure your head will be inside that line and not meeting the ground.

I also placed a 3/16" x 3" or 4" flat bar under the fender with holes drilled to match those in the bottom of the roll bar. Then bolted through both. Not as good as bolting or welding to the frame but it keeps the frame flex. It might help to keep the roll bar from pulling or pushing through the sheet metal if needed.
