    Hmmmm...
The chain driven L-head has a different camshaft since it rotates the other way. The camshaft gear that spins the oil pump has opposite spiral threads. The wrong oil pump gear should not even mesh with the non-matching cam gear. The gears are different so that the oil pump runs in the correct direction (pumping oil OUT of the oil pan). Of course that is why both types of engines should spin the distributor the same direction.

Just thought I would throw in my two cents. :)

Chain-drive spins the oil pump and distributer in the opposite direction of the gear-drive.
Chain drive the two timing gears (cam and crankshaft) turn in the same direction, and gear drive turn in opposite directions. Crank turns the same way for both.

    sammy Coca-Cola?

    Yep yep
I think it's all the same parts except sprockets and chain off the old engine, so in theory, it should work fine. We'll see though
Is pertronix universal rotation? Or do I call them with my dizzy model #?

I meant the parts I put back onto the engine were the same ones I removed from the engine during disassembly...
