Original Color for Windshield Hinges

Okay, I'm about to look pretty goofy, but I just ordered some 1/4"-28 stainless steel machine screws with the phillips flat head - and they are too small. Not a huge loss, but now I have to figure out the correct size for my Jeep. As best I can tell from measuring, it looks like 5/16"-18 may be the correct (factory original) size for my application. Anyone else have this size on their Jeep besides me? I'm comparing the originals to a scaled bolt chart to get these measurements. I am fairly certain the ones on the Jeep are original, as they look just like those posted earlier in this thread with the gripper ribs on the taper of the head. (Probably shoulda checked BEFORE I ordered!)

Anyway, I thought it might be helpful to someone else too if we nail (or bolt) this one down. By the way, I've enjoyed this thread - thanks for all the replies.

My CJ5 (1960) is in the process of being painted and the painter asked me about the black on the windshield frame and hinges (yes, I am going with the black look). Does anyone know if Rondog is correct? (I only ask because he started with "I think...") I have seen pics where it appears to be high gloss, but obviously been repainted. How shiny were they?

My '57 windshield frame has the original paint and is definitely 60% semi-gloss black. Eastwood satin chassis black matches perfectly.

Well my 1955 CJ5 had original paint. It had a black windshield with body color green hinges. I'm not saying that all CJ5's were that way, but mine definitely was.

My new to me 1955 CJ5 number 181 off the line appears to have the windshield frame painted body color. Even under the cowl rubber it's Diamond Blue. Thoughts????

It seems the first few hundred are all that colour, Tonk was. There's other examples in our range that have the body coloured ws frame & floor pans.
