Windshield frame

I have a 61 CJ5 pretty much stock that I've been working on over the last two years. The windshield frame is different than any others I've ever seen. The entire frame folds down over the hood in typical CJ fashion, but the windshield glass is split in two sections, the entire glass section can be pushed outward and up then locked in position to allow airflow through the cab while the windsheild frame is in the up position.

Is this common? Has any one else seen one? Is there any interesting history to it?
Part of my glass frame section is rusted through... I was not able to find a replacement frame like it so instead I patched it up/ painted it and so far it has held up!

    mb82 I feel great!

They are not common but they are very disireable. I don't know if we decided yet but they were an option on some Jeeps.

You have a HOT item.. Check out I believe RONDOG just redcieved one on a trade..You can still by them , BUT you will pay over 300.00 and it is a reproduction.. You have what I am looking for for my m-model Jeeps.. Treat is like DIAMONDS and GOLD... You can still get replacement parts for it...

Do a search for "ventilating windshield", all the info you need & more you don't :).

Congratulations Thunderpig! Looks like there will be at least two of us in Colorado with those windshields! There's at least five owners of those on this board now, counting you. I think most of us are looking for at least gaskets for the glass and inner frame. I'm waiting to hear back from Peter Debella, and I think someone else here is too. Here's the thread on mine...http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26684

    Rondog,

Now that you mention it... I do need rubber around the inner frame... I replaced the glass last year in it.. it cost me 40 bucks at a glass shop in New Castle. If you know where I can get the rubber please let me know.

That is the frame that my 62 CJ had when I owned it back in the 70's. I am pretty certain that it came new with it. I sold that Jeep in the Phoenix, AZ area back around 78 or 79. Wish I still had it now.

Yes, by all means, please spill the beans about where these "reproductions" and replacement parts are!!!!

  13. Guess that makes me a member of a rather exclusive club . . . I have a venting windshield that came on my M38A1. I'm building it back to full military, so I'm not sure whether or not I'll keep it or sell it. Like everyone else, I need the outer gasket, so include me when you find a source.

What's the going rate for fairly complete venting windshield? Mine is only lacking the gasket & the lip for a top.

    Thanks, Galen

I'm not sure these are the same ones though! Mine has rounded corners, and the ones at the link are square... as if for the older flat fender jeeps. But they do have some of the replacement parts though!!!
I'm not sure about the rubber but maybe.

I went to the 4wd.com website, but couldn't find anything about any windshields. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer, though. I've sent them a message and a catalog request. Many thanks for the info 1963CJ5, and sorry for your speeding ticket!

One other thing...my windshield doesn't have that bar in the center, it's one piece of glass all the way across.

    Ron,

I "think" you have the Military version of the venting ws. I know that mine (split glass) is original equipment and was a option on US models but was more common on exported civilian models [may have been standard equipment – but not positive].

Part numbers didn't work for me, but finally got something under a search for "windshield". All I could find were parts and frames for early stuff like CJ2A's, CJ3A's, CJ3B's, MB/GPW's, M38's, etc. Nothing on the venting w/s for the CJ5's and M38A1's, which are completely different from the early ones. I'm still waiting to hear back from my email to them.

I wonder if some of the military parts specialists might have parts for these? Hmmm.
