Remanufactured Rochester 2G's

Anyone out there bought a reman 2G? Any complaints? Napa lists two (one with auto and one with manual choke) for ~$215 each if searching by a 1971 CJ5 225 V6. Oreilly's has a "Tomco" remanufactured 2G with auto choke for $105. I would personally lean towards the half-price version.

My 2G has a manual choke. Will a carb with auto choke work fine on my JEEP?

I have already rebuilt mine, but I am not happy with it just a year later. I figure by the time I pay another $40 on a rebuild kit and carb dip, and do the work in the winter time in the cold, it's not worth it. I even have a junker spare 2G that I can use for the core, and still keep my original carb as a backup.

I bought a remanufactured 2G from Napa about 12 years ago. Still works great.

I purchased one about a year ago from Advance Auto Parts (manual choke), no complaints here.

The auto-choke should work so long as the auto part functions ok and the tube connects from the carb to the ex. manifold nipple.

I had my stock Rochester rebuilt by www.jeepcarbs.com. Sent it to them and a week later it came back looking and perfroming just like new. I just had to adjust the idle speed. Everything else was dead-on.

    What did they charge?

I wonder if my exhaust manifold has a "nipple". I assume it is on the p/s exhaust manifold?

I bought one from JC Whitney a couple years ago. About $89.00 and no core exchange necessary. Works fine.

We used to sell Tomco as the "better" rebuild at the parts store I worked at long ago. No complaints that I recall. The brand has been around a long time.

  10. If you can, have it rebuilt locally. Here in Havasu, because of the proliferation old cars and boats, there is a Carb Rebuild shop in town. I've talked to them about the 2G and they said they have a flat rate of $94--in by 9, out by 5. That price includes re-boring the cast iron throttle plate and rebushing it and a new throttle shaft if necessary. That is about the only part that can "wear" on these carbs. The other thing to look for is corrosion in the bore of the accel pump chamber due to water :)( ). About the only thing that well not be "rebuildable". Other than that, the "ol 2G seems to last forever.

Whitney sells Automotive Rebuilders Inc. carbs starting at $99.99. They're in the big catalog in the replacement parts section near the back, not in the smaller Jeeps only catalog.
