I've been building up my G'pa's 53 3a for a long time now and it's time to consider exhaust. I've got a fresh rebuilt 225 and it's going through an np435. question is what size exhaust is anybody running/what's a good size. I could go dual or I could go bigger with crossover to single to save some room around the gas tank in back.

    ideas????

Ah, you're gonna get a can of worms here.... theoretically, you'd want to stay with smaller pipe to keep back pressure up, making more torque..... Also depends on what kind of sound you want...I personally am running fenderwell headers and Cherrybomb turbo II's and turnouts in front of the rear wheels, with 2 1/2 inch pipe.... Very free flowing, but I didn't notice any loss in low-end..... I like the sound OK, but often wish the pipes exited at the rear corners of the Jeep......

I'll second that. I'm running fenderwell headers with 2-1/2-inch collectors into 2-1/2-inch mufflers. I had the old school $8 turbos that probably came with the headers and now have Flowmaster Hushpowers on it. The Flowmasters are really mellow and almost take the odd-fire sound out of the engine. I'm going to go pick up some regular old OEM-type quiet mufflers to replace them with. As for power, those 225s make so much low end torque and the 50lb flywheel has so much inertia it's going to take a lot to notice any loss.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I think 2" diam or smaller
only reason would be that it's easier to make some of those tight bends and curves necc if you're going all the way back.
mine run all the way out both corners, 2" diam, fwiw

Jim's sounds good with glasspacks. My Dad's has AA headers and duals all the way to the back with Dynomax muffflers side by side...

thanks for the feed back. I'm pretty sure I'm going all the way to the corners just a matter of 2-2.25" or cross over to one three all the way. if I can fit it I like the 2 x 2" idea....

I run Heddman fenderwell headers with 2 1/4" thrush mufflers and turnouts in front of the rear wheels, they have a nice rumble to them and tone down at cruising speed, the headers were new in 1992, no holes or leaks in them yet. I run the reuseable copper gaskets at the collectors.
