Spent some quality time this evening with the Jeep, trying to track down the annoying front-end squeak that has been driving me nuts. I was dead convinced that it was the front fenders rubbing against the grille shell, but that wasn't it. New welting on the grille told me it wasn' the hood on the grille shell. I just couldn't duplicate it by hand, but when I fired the engine over, it was there until I tried to isolate it.

The da**ed hood catches were the culprit!!!

I've only been listening to this since before Tellico this spring, and it was driving me to drink (more). A couple of blobs of all-purpose chassis grease slopped up into the tube of the hood catch, followed by twisting them around a dozen or so times in each direction, and then wiping off the excess did the trick. Hallaleuja!

    I'm a happy boy!

I used to get that when I used them mounted on the frame rail, attached to the one-pc clip. Any fix only lasted until they got wet, and I finally replaced them with the all-rubber semi style hood latches.

The 3B hood squeaked at the rear till I put hood catches at the back also. I hate tracking down squeaks. Haven't had the catches themselves squeak though. :hurrican:

Yup those hood catches sure can make a racket! Mine squeeked on my cj-7. It's amazing how mich movement is going on up there. I only figured out it was them 'cause they squeeked when I undid them. Hmmmm that sounds like.... A shot of WD solved it.
