Bantam tire sizes

    Well, my wheels are off at the sandblaster/ powder coater for the next week, so I am now thinking about tire size. I noticed Boyink used 215/75/15's on his trailer and was wondering what others have used. It had 235/75/15's when I got it, but they were pretty old and are already gone. I could see evidence of rubbing on the trailer and want something narrower. My CJ5 has a fresh 2.5" lift and 32's on it, but I also want the trailer to be compatible with other vehicles.

    The wheels are 15 x 5.5.

    Ideas?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    I run the same wheels/tires as I do on my Jeep
    the spare on the Jeep fits both Jeep and Bantam
    I run 15x7, 31/10.50/15 Cooper Mud Terrains
    minor rubbing depending on terrain

    do you plan on carrying an extra spare for the trailer ?
    otherwise, I'd try and match 'em all IMO

    Yeah..i've got a spare tire mount on the trailer and spare wheel/tire already. It is also a 235/75/15 and I planned on leaving it as is.....and not buying another for now. My JEEP has 235/85/16 TrXus MT's, and I am afraid they would make the trailer unusably high. Plus I would have to locate 16" JEEP wheels. I am running the stock tow-bar, and the trailer already nosed forward pretty good with the 235/75/15's on it. I am getting convinced that Boyink's size may be just about right for me. Or maybe 225/75/15's

    FWIW I do get a bit of rubbing when carrying heavy loads. Just scuffs the paint a bit.

    Dunno...how much skinnier is that?

    Oh...you know I just remembered... :rofl: ...

    I took a die grinder and rounded off the lugs on the inside of the tires to help alleviate some of the rubbing...man that stunk for awhile...

    Basically 1/2" skinnier. should be ~27 x 8 (205/75/15) vs. 27.5 x 8.5 (215/75/15).

    Take your tape measure on a field trip to Sams Club / Costco and see what they've got on the shelf....

    I don't think I'd worry too much about whether the tires were an exact match, especially since you're planning on carrying a spare for the Jeep AND a spare for the trailer.

    1/2" skinnier..so 1/4" less rubber on the inside....probably not going to make that much difference after my die grinder job. Could depend on the tread style though...the MT's have big lugs.

    I was thinking about the MT's too. I'll prolly stay with an AT that will have less shoulder than your MT's. I don't really want to buy new tires then spend a few hours sniffing burning rubber.
