I'm putting the drive train from a 66 CJ5 (225,T86, Dana 18 single stick) into my 46 Cj2A. I want to keep the transfer case twin sticks from the T90/Dana 18 twin stick combo that was in the CJ2A.

Can I simply take the twin sticks off the T90/Dana 18 combo and bolt onto the T86/Dana 18 combo? Can I simply take the entire Dana 18 (large hole I think) single stick TC off the T86 and bolt on the Dana 18 twin stick TC? Any other simple inexpensive options I haven't mentioned to swap drive trains and still keep twin stick TC shifters?

to swap out the sticks you have to pretty much take apart the whole tcase, but it is not that difficult. this would be a good time to put in new bearings and seals.

i don't think you can just swap tcases because of the hole sizes.

Thanks. Anything in particular I should look out for? What gets swapped out and what gets swapped in?

You need the front housing the shift levers and the shift rails from the old style case, other than that its just gaskets and seals. You can leave the transfercase and transmission hooked together and set them on a bench, remove the front housing, the pan and then remove the shift rails by sticking an allen wrench thru the pan, the main shaft will need to be removed to get the shift fork off the one rail, the other is easy, then reassemble it all with new seals while you're in there. It takes about 2-4 hours to do the case and reassembly depending on how familiar you are with the guts and how fast you are at working.
