I found a 1942 army jeep and im going to check it out tomorrow.
Just wanted to know if a GPW and MB are about the same worth?
I was told this jeep is stock and has a winche, but i dont know if it has PTO or not! Also, any idea what a PTO winche is worth?
The owner also, told me it was parked about 1 year ago and was running @ the time..
I have a cj2a and i know what to look for in most CJ for damage=worth and cost to fix.
Im assuming its about the same for the MB/GPW!?!
Any special stuff i should look for tomorrow in a MB/GPW?
    :D

The biggest de-valuators (made up word) are military jeeps that are civilianized.

Does it have the original flat head or has someone changed it to an f-head or other with some dumb hood scoop?

Has it been converted from 6v to 12v?

Is the gas tank in the original location under the seat with the under seat fill or has someone civilianized it by putting outside fill like a 2A?

Has someone cut a tailgate in it? (MB's & GPW's didn't have tailgates)

Does it have the pintle hook or did someone remove that and put some civilian hitch on it?

Does it have the combat wheels? These are two part wheels that you can spot by little raised circles all around the rim?

Does it have the original starter switch or did someone add a key?

Does it have the axe and shovel mount on the driver's side or did someone bondo over it?

Are the tool boxes rusted out?

Does it have original type seats or did someone put bucket seats in it?

Does it have original headlights that swing out into the engine compartment? Original blackout light on fender? Original tailights?

    Front bumer? Bumperettes on rear?

Data plates on glove box door? Any dash cutouts for added gauges?

Any of these changes takes it down considerably. Take some pics and some notes and post here and we'll help you.

    Hope this helps.

It looks to have the original flat head and has 6v. The gas tank is in the original location under the seat with the under seat fill but, rusty inside. No tailgate! No pintle hook they put a civilian hitch on it. I dont think it has combat wheels but i have pics!? It has a key starter. It has the axe and shovel mount on the driver's side with rust.Tool boxes look OK. It has original type seats but need fixin. It has the original headlights that swing out into the engine compartment. No blackout light on fender. Front bumer? yes. Bumperettes on rear? yes.
No glove box door and no tool box doors. Dash looks ok it seems to have a clock in the dask (stock??)! The last time it ran was about 10/15 years ago But did run when it was parked (owner said this) But who really knows? rust on some of the floor braces (not as bad as my cj2a was) some kinda of pully on transfer case(in the place a pto would go) is this some kinda PTO? I didnt find a on/off for it! When i was there the owner was tryin to make her go but it wasn,t havin it! (wires look rat nest)
I was thinkin it is worth less then $500.00. was thinkin of giving 300 to 400 for it? what do ya think!

Well, I'd say it's at least worth $500. We bought a rough one here a while back for $450 with one combat wheel, but not as nice as the pics you have.

I'd say go for it. If you don't want it, sell it. You can probably double your money on ebay or in the right places.

Did he not say what he wanted?

Someone added a turn signal indicator as well, but not a big deal. You'll need a windshield frame.

Let me know if you need more help. Good luck!
