    Hey all,
I am running a DUI distributor and have been using the supplied gear, but I want to use the gear from the old distributor. The problem is the holes for the roll pin don't line up. Has anyone had this issue? Any tricks for this?

I'm not sure of the DUI, but I've swapped a number of gears on HEI systems.

Have you compared the two gears?
    Are they the same height?
Are the holes in the same place relative to each other?

The DUI should have the proper gear. Why would you want to change it?

I keep hearing about the gears chewing each other up. I will say I have about 1500 miles on it with the new distributor.

My two cents... I chased HEI issues a year ago for my odd-fire Dauntless. The bad drive gears were on units being manufactured in China. Do not buy HEI distributors from eBay!
The DUI is a quality unit and if it's worked for 1500 miles, you should be fine. The DUI unit is well respected and was my second choice in electronic ignition.
I have a reman Delco from NAPA but they're not always available.

When I rebuilt my engine I put in a new cam and also a new set of gears on the cam and distributor. When I changed the gear on the distributor it seemed like I got the wrong gear, the holes wouldn't line up. I was ready to drill a hole in the new gear and just before I did, I set both of them side by side on my workbench and saw that the holes were at the same level. I went back and started messing with the distributor and all of a sudden the shaft moved down a little bit and the new drive gear lined up. I can't explain exactly what moved but I put the pin in the new gear with no issues. You might compare old vs. new gear closely.
