I’m trying to install 11” brakes on the rear of my 1956, and am running into an issue making the final connection from the existing 9” brake hard lines to the 11” wheel cylinders.

The 9” cylinders use what I believe is called a 3/8-24 inverted flare. They form a seal by bottoming out in the wheel cylinder.

The 11” wheel cylinders have female holes that are much deeper, so the inverted flare fitting will not seal. dorman H84517 hose in the rock auto link below fits the 11” cylinders. The Dorman hose fittings are also called 3/8-24, but they are longer and use a brass washer to create the seal.

Anyone know the name of that type of male connection and the easiest way to convert to it from 3/8-24 inverted flare? I’d rather use a very short metal adapter vs a longer hose if possible

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Sounds like you may have front 11" wheel cylinders on the rear. Were your 11" brakes used in a front application ?
I think I would purchase the correct 11" rear wheel cylinders that will mate to your old brake lines.

Thanks for this. I did buy the correct rear wheel cylinders, but I didn’t even bother pulling the little yellow protective plugs to look at the threads! I just assumed they were the same deep holes as the front wheel cylinders, which I installed a couple months ago and needed to buy the dorman h84517 hoses to replace the inverted flare “S” lines.

But you are correct, the rear wheel cylinders have shallower holes made to fit a 3/8-24 inverted flare. So again, thank you! Problem solved!
