    Guys

My Super Jeep is a resto-mod so no need to beat myself up finding original wheels. I'd be happy to have 15x8 steel wheels of similar appearance, maybe even smoothies for style points. Question is what backspace (or offset) would be appropriate?

    Thanks

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

I think they were 3 1/2" of backspacing.

The Renegade I wheels measure 9” bead to bead.
It measures 4” down to the wheel mount.
Which means the wheels have a 3-1/2” inset.
So the wheel itself is outset 1/2” from true centerline.

9"? I thought they were 8". Do you mean 9" total overall width?

Re-read. You are referencing Renegade wheels. I'm talking steel KH Super Jeep wheels. No idea about R1 wheels but would have thought they were 7".

Some 8" steelies with 3.5 backspace should look pretty nice.

9” is nearly a reference to the overall width (OAW) of the rim section which includes the bead flanges.
The designated wheel width is 8” and is measured inside of the bead flange where the tire seats onto the rim.
I would not run more than 3.5” of backspace on a Jeep CJ unless you have wide track axles or use wheel spacers.
