Mechanical Vs Electric Fuel Pump On 225?

While installing my Herm Ford Reverse steering box, I have noticed it is very close to my mechanical fuel pump for my Buick225. I am considering blocking off the mechanical pump and just using a electric fuel pump (keep an extra in the jeep just incase). Any thoughts or concern going with electric?

    Thanks

Looks like plenty of clearance to me. External electric pumps are often on the noisy side but otherwise should be fine. Depending on your choice you may need a pressure regulator / return line.

Where is your power steering pump mounting?

Its a high mount Buick pump bracket.

I don't see an issue with keeping the mechanical pump for a carburetor. Maybe carry an electric pump as a spare anyway.

I think you have the Buick 455 steel PS brackets. The 350 brackets mount the pump more vertical.
either way your fuel pump looks fine. I carried a cheap electric pump for back up.

Can’t you just run both? Like a mighty mite Holley electric pump to the mech. Pump. Maybe hook it to a toggle switch

I can personally say the mechanical pump and the Herm mount/Ford gear are VERY tight. I was not able to remove the fuel pump without removing the steering gear. First and most important is to install a new fuel pump when installing the Herm mount - That should last for years. Then like others mentioned I do also have a spare electric pump in the Jeep.

These motors ran for years if not decades on mechanical fuel pumps….
