My Version Of A Resto-mod Cj2a

ok, so Ive been burning rods and spinning wrenches, lurking in the garage for too long. need to share!!!

so here goes. this is NOT a cut up jeep. it is made from leftover parts, so this is NOT blasphemy. I have cut up my fair share of jeeps, and have a fully restored GPW. so dont send me a scarlet letter W.

based on a boxed CJ2A frame. 225 with HEI ignition. mustang aluminum radiator. 2" receivers front and rear- front is tucked up high for winch duty. swing out tire carrier out back, to hold a gerry can as well. custom tank in back cj5 style tucked up invisibly between frame rails. SM465 married to a D300 case. narrow track D30 with 6 bolt warn hubs, sidekick disc brakes. rear flanged D44 both in 3.73:1 ratios- bigger 11" CJ7 brakes. 16" wheels new tub. old everything else sheetmetal-wise. new besttop. heated cj5 seats. custom bluetooth stereo in console. console also houses a heater blowing forwards towards windshield. yj springs. custom shocks. 'inletted' spring U bolt plates. dash cane ebrake converted and levered to pull the ebrake on the D44. custom wiring harness with grounds ran to all items, with weatherpack connectors at all items. removable steering wheel. battery under front drivers seat. rollcage to frame coming soon. tucked up sliders, not yet installed in this photo. power brakes, power steering (ford reverse swing Hidden away) high steer arms. hydraulic clutch.

as yummy as I could dream up and make it look legit. this is my dream flatty and the last one I will build. so Im going to finish it, take it completely apart then paint it with the best stuff I can. hope she will outlast me. shes looks stock until you look close... thats the plan

just a note, I had 8 jack stands under it too. and that was just so that I wasnt bending over constantly while wiring up the dash etc. I certainly undestand that is not 'best practice' but it sure did suit my back better.

I bought the parts from a kid that took a nice 2A and stripped/chopped it into shreds; so much so that he couldnt do anyting with it. these parts were all that I could save. that was the reason for the previous comment. if youre going to chop one up, do it with a basketcase and not a pristine willy. he chopped the fenders, the rear of the tub off etc. he was 'building' it on another local site and as soon as he gave up on it I snatched it up simply for the title and body to use as a mockup.

I have a 3A that is made from reclaimed everythng and is a complete beater farm use/ deer hauler, a 'one ton crawler CJ7' and a perfectly restored numbers matching GPW. this one should be fill the gap for a wheeler that is more useable now that the trails in the south are either disappearing or need 40" tires etc. the CJ7 doesnt even have a battery in it, it just sits sadly waiting to be chopped and drivetrain used to power a willy truck or wagon OR a M715 should someone find me one.

I'm going to guess your weight will come in about the same as my 3B but perhaps a little lighter due to tires. Last time I weighed it with all the trail gear it was 3150. I think it is a bit lighter now with the aluminum block and 8274/rope versus 5721/steel cable but the new D44 front axle added at least 50 lbs. I have a decent set of wheel scales now so I can get an accurate weight when it is all back together.

got a v8 in a 3a. too much motor for one of these. 4 cyl too little. v6 should prove just right this time.

 

Naaaaa It's all how you drive them and perhaps how the engine was built. I'm still of the school that one can not have too much bottom end torque-assuming you built the rest of it accordingly.

Really like the 'bahamian cream' paint. Its not quite dark enough but real close and I think looks better than harvest tan.
