Vintage Radiator

I just took a quick look and was amazed at how many different radiators that Willys used. Sorting out all the different radiator part numbers, manufacturers and variations would be a monumental task.

 

Bob, that sounds daunting.
I mainly got interested when I attempted to get my latest 3B Harrison recored.
Not an easy task and I soon found out it’s near impossible to find cores that correctly match the originals.
And now I’m beginning to realize that there may have been other makes and multiple core types that were used.
Standard cores, optional cores, different vintages, different models and maybe more.

Daunting task, not Dauntless ha ha ha !

So there were many optional radiators? I always thought the honeycomb style stopped around the end of the war. my 46 2a is very original, and has a 'normal' fin and tube arrangement. interesting...

 

Yes all original 2A’s that I have seen have the “fin and tube” cores.
And most if not all Jeep models had optional radiators.
I’m just learning this myself but I’ll talk a little about the effect of core design later.
Also I’ll try to post more info and we’ll see if we can take some mystery out of “Group 14 Cooling System”

Ok Will, thanks for the feedback.
Seems I get side tracked rather easily these days.
I’ll try and get back to this radiator topic but currently I’m on track of what may prove to be the earliest known surviving CJ3A.
So hopefully I can first get some solid documentation going on that before it’s all gone.
I’ll be uploading that info onto the cj3 forum.
In the meantime if you have specific questions then we as a group may have the answer.
So many jeeps, so many forums, so little time !

Adding to this topic and looking for some answers as well. My 1957 CJ5 has this radiator.

P12 55




Unsure if this is original or period correct. It does look taller as the air deflector doesn't cover it all but it was centered to the fan.
I thought it would help.
