Stock 225 V6 set up in a stock cj5..........hoping for a simple yes or no but maybe it's more complicated than that????

If I understand the research I did here, I can remove the factory ballast resistor then replace the matching factory coil with an internally resisted coil and everything will be fine, yes?

Sorry if I'm turning up the bottom of the pond again.

Should work unless there's a specific reason that the V6 came with the ballast resistor.

I used a V 6 wiring harness in my 64 F134, the f 134 had an internal resister, so I screwed the eyelets for the resister together and shrink wrapped them in case I needed a resister later, it has worked out good so far.

    Your research is correct.

Anyone know why the V6 had the external resistor?

Any modern cars use the internal resistor? It makes heat, and placing it outside the distributor seems reasonable. It's a primitive aspect of the Kettering trigger, meant to current-limit the circuit. Does not affect the voltage at the points, which seems to be the popular belief.

I assume you mean coil, not distributor. If an external resistor is better for the coil then that certainly makes sense.

Yep. Trying to do to many things at once! :coffee:

I've often tried to do nothing before but after thinking about it realized doing nothing isn't possible. :D

Thank you gentlemen. Just trying to remove a potential failure point from the system. These resistors, like many other new ignition parts for our old rigs, seem to be of steadily lessening quality and dependability.

Oh uhh.......do I need to connect the wires that went to each end of the resistor? I would think so, but I'm an electrical idiot.
