Exhaust Exit Location / Style

    so wheres everybody routing their exhaust out so it doesnt get sucked into the cab if doors, rear flap are open. Im getting ready to route an entire exhaust for a 225, starting from scratch

    I ran mine behind the rear wheels. Makes my floor hot like a frying pan and smells like exhaust of a non catalytic converted junky engine. Out back would be better, but if you have the back open the exhaust will get sucked in.

    ^ so, do you have it routed duals all the way out? crossover somewhere? how close to the floor is it? where and how can I run it to where it doesnt suck back in? whats the trick?

    Whoops, I ran mine IN FRONT of the rear wheels.

    My jeep is not your standard fare.. Its a cj2a, but its stretched 12 inches in the door. I ran my exhaust from iron manifolds under the frame right behind the spring mount where its difficult to smash it to some mustang mufflers that I think are flow masters. They ae about 1.5 niche from the floor and the floor gets about 120 degrees at least. When I had the undersea tank, the fuel would boil. Not good. Went with a rear mount tank..

    I don't have a top for it, so i just deal with the elements. As long as you tune it right, the exhaust isn't too bad. I have an HEI ignition, offenhauser intake and a holley 4 barrel. I open up the spark gap to take advantage of the HEI and use a vacuum gauge to set timing.

    What I have noticed is that with a top, it can suck in exhaust and concentrate it inside. At least thats my experience with my 77cj5 i had 27, or so, years ago.

    X2 side pipes stink with top on when stopped and rear stinks with top off. back corner is the place to go, just like stock.

    It's a Jeep. It will smell. All part of the experience. Mine run at stock location and unless you run high cfm jnto a small engine, there would be only a minimal amount of blowback, if any. But, that's my experience. YMMV

    Mine ends just ahead of the rear tires. But points in under the jeep. I don’t really ever smell exhaust.

    On mine, I ran the exhaust on my 71 out the back corners. I did rap the headers and muffler to cut down on the heat, and it helped a lot. I don't noticed any exhaust fumes.

    I run a hardtop all the time and had duals straight out the back for quite a few years. Most of the time it was fine but sometimes had fume issues. I then routed a single out the corner and now there is no signs of fumes at all. It was immediately a noticeable smell difference. I snaked mine up over the frame in the little space before the bumper. its a tight fit but i dont have any trouble with heat or it vibrating anywhere.

    Mine dump to the sides, from in front of the rear wheels. I've not noticed fumes, neither recently, (no top) nor back in the day (with top). Now that you have me thinking about it, though, I probably will. I can take and post photos of everything you think it would be at all helpful.

    i have exhaust that exit in front of the rear tire. i have a meyers hard top. the mufflers come off the headers and are 14" long by 71/4 wide, 2" in and out. i can't remember the brand they only cost 25 each, but sound great, not loud. anyway they have a 90 degree elbow that comes out to the edge of the cab and are slash cut. maybey that send the fumes out a little more. the dog sits in the back and has never passed out. maybey i will take my co2 detector out of the house for a ride. later

    I'm another that runs the exhaust out in front of the rear wheels. Just makes it really simple if using fenderwell headers. My exits are horizontal with the thought that I don't want that heat on my tires. I haven't noted any excess fumes with or without top. Depending on wind direction, when crawling, I think it is too much to expect that you won't ever smell exhaust-no matter where the exit.

    All you need to do to eliminate that floor heat is put a metal (I use aluminum) heat shield between the muffler and the floor. It is visible just below the slider and although it doesn't look like it, there is a 1.5" space between it and the floor. The actual floor on this Willys is recessed that 1.5" into the tub.

    I went to great lengths to get my exhaust tucked up under the Jeep and exit behind the rear tires like so.

    I am very pleased with the result (although I just noticed one is lower), quieter, less smelly and not as susceptible to rocks as the ones that exit in front or the rear tires. I have never run a top on this Jeep so no idea if the exhaust from this location would get sucked in or not.

    Mine is out the back and turned down and doesn't have a fume issue with the soft top on. I haven't run it without a top yet. I do have an interference problem though. The guy who ran it crossed over from the driver to passenger side above the rear differential. So it hits when going over a speed bump. I may get rid of the true duals and do a single 3" tailpipe out the drivers rear corner. It looks and sounds good, but the little Flowmaster 10s don't muffle much.
