Install Od On D18 With T14

I'm ready to install the overdrive on my D18 TC with a T14 tranny and have been told that I need to add spacers under the shifter mount on the tranny. Does anyone know how tall those need to be? Are they for clearance of the linkage?

 

Mine (same T14/D18 set-up) did not have spacers and works just fine. One big caution: Make sure the bolts you use for the T14 top cover (which also hold the OD shifter mount) are not too long. The bosses they thread into on the main T14 case are only so deep, if the bolt is too long, when you tighten them down it can blow out the boss on the inside of the case...which injects lovely chunks of cast iron into your transmission. Several T14's I have taken apart have the top cover bosses broken off on the inside.

I would say try installing without spacers, see if it all functions correctly. If you have a clearance issue, add some spacers as appropriate.

Lee... So long as the 2 hole O.D. pivot bracket clears all gussetting on the top of the T14 shift tower; then it should be good to go.
