Alternator Relocation

I'm about to tackle some projects I've been putting off and one is to remove the smog pump and associated plumbing. After the pump is removed I want to relocate my alternator to that position. I currently have a York compressor installed above the alternator. Moving the alternator will simplify my belt routing.

Has anyone done this, seen it done or have any outstanding reasons why it would be a bad idea?

1974 304 stock except for York installation.

Service manual shows a few different accessory locations. Pick one you like and begin search for a donor, I suppose.

Or you can just fab up your own mounts. I've done that with numerous sbc's. That way you get things exactly where you want them.

Don't mean to hijack the tread but I have the same set up and been toying with the York compressor idea for some time. Can you post some pics and tips on the installation process? Thanks.

I only hope my solution end up half as clean as your example.

I can post photos but as far as the install process goes I can't offer any advice. This unit was installed in 1978 as an AC compressor by the original owner. I can't imagine it making much difference in the summer down here but I guess every little bit counts.

looking at one purely as an air compressor. can't imagine what it would take to cool off my jeep.

I doubt it cooled this one much. I repurposed this for onboard air.

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

While not an AMC same concept build or buy your brackets.
