Anyone have a favorite brand of Starter for a 66 Dauntless V6? My V6 starter in my 2A is sounding very weak and slow. Would like to find a brand of replacement that will really spin this engine over more quickly'

Perhaps not the answer you were looking for, but is there a good starter shop in your area? It may be cheaper to have them take a look at your existing starter and rebuild it than to buy new. If the internal components are getting worn it would probably work better after a rebuild.
Also not trying to be Captain Obvious here but how is your battery? In my experience that plays a larger role in cranking speed than anything. It may be worth having an auto parts store test your battery. I remember a car I had that would reliably start unti one day the battery quit. When I got a new one I couldn't believe how fast it cranked. The battery had been weak for a long time and I hadn't realized.

Summit sells a high torque compact unit for GM applications.
    IIRC 153 tooth? Maybe 160?

No need for anything fancy to spin over a low compression 225 cubic inch engine.
Having said that, most parts store rebuilt starters are of dubious quality....

If you get a parts store starter, do not turn in your core until you are 100% sure the starter works correctly. I would closely compare the nose casting of the new and old starter to make sure I had the right part. Actually, I would compare every visible detail. You can even swap the nose from your original starter, and turn in the new nose with the core, if they do not match exactly.

Is it a Delco or Prestolite starter? If it's a car engine, I'd think Delco (better) would be more likely. The Delco solenoids on the starter fail a lot more than the starters themselves.

I bought a remanufactured starter and what they sent me was a brand new Chinese starter. I didn't have a starter issue I just wanted a reman on the shelf for the future. Needless to say I'm still running the OEM starter and wont run the new China starter. Be careful your reman is based on a Jeep/Buick pump and not like the junk I have here.

Make sure your problem isnt the wiring. Try jumper cables to bypass it and see if it still acts the same. Both the positive and ground
