I used my 2 " . Like peteL says the high point along with a very little die grinder , your gauges will go in nice & snug. You' ll be good with your 2 " holesaw , center punch, and 3/16" pilot hole.

That is Smith & Wesson 3 1/2" barrel .357. It is an N frame or Model 27 as they are known. The .357 was the only caliber available with the 3 1/2" tapered barrel "back in the day". Based on the Baughman front sight and the rear target sight being blue that is a nickel gun. If it were blue you wouldn't see difference in coloring.

Oh, and DO NOT use that fly cutter type hole maker in a hand drill...

This is funny. No one likes the circle cutter apparently. I've used it successfully for different size holes in metal.

Thanks for the Education & ID, Mike C.... "This is the most powerful Handgun in the World. Ive seen .38's glance of windshields , with this , I know that ain't gonna happen " :)

The Clint Statement is no longer valid nor was it at the time. Currently the most powerful production handgun round is the .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum. Firing a 350gr JHP bullet, it can exceed 3000 foot-pounds of energy, at nearly 2000fps. The .480 Ruger and .475 Linebaugh also exceed the .454 Casull by a wide margin. And the Casull was developed and in use from 1957 so even when Clint made that statement in the movie it wasn't true. But it sure sold one hell of a lot of S&W model 29's in 44 mag.

No I love them, they can be really dangerous in a hand drill though. On a mill or drill press they can’t be beat by any hi dollar hole saw made.

I would say that when Clint made that statement it was mostly true. At that time there were no production guns built for that cartridge and any ammo would have been ordered. Freedom Arms model 83 was the only production gun in the 70’s manufactured for the ammo and it didn’t come out till 3-4 years after Clint’s statement in 1978 or so.

One definitely has to be careful using them in a hand drill, but in reality I'd say drilling a hole in steel with a strong hand drill and a bit that is strong enough not to break is more dangerous. :)

So..... With all of our rather informative replies, I believe we may have overlooked the most important player ?........
Buildflycrash : How are you making out with your gauge install ?

Possibly correct - but it makes no difference to the legend. Nor did it at the time.

    Well I’m enjoying the highjack.
The jeep is at a local shop to tune the carb (I have no idea). And maybe figure out why I have no front brakes. I’m really busy at work now so glad to have someone working on it. I did install the gauge but only strapped it to the column so we know the over heating is under control. I will cut the hole next week and let y’all know how it turns out.

    Back to the highjack.

I don't hate the cutter, just using it in a hand drill. I have a couple of them. One has the single cutter and one has opposing cutters. Hard to adjust but much better balanced.
