I ran a Carter YF for 10 years, before dropping it for a Solex. Three rebuilds - 2 by me and one professionally, couldn't make it work satisfactorily. I finally gave up and bolted on a Solex. For $120, it was rang great right out of the box and really woke the F-Head up. No kits that support 40 years of Carter YFs with poor instructions and extra parts. No ultrasonic carb cleaner. Just a working engine, well running engine.

Don't get me wrong, after watching Mustie1 on Youtube, I want an ultrasonic cleaner. :D But the Solex just makes sense.

My YF runs fine after a kit from Daytona Parts and a fuel pressure regulator.

Well I took the YF completely apart today and cleaned it best as I could without an ultrasonic cleaner. It looked horrible in there. I am concerned if it is even worth rebuilding. I will have to place an order for a kit. Whilst off I thought I would just throw the BB1 on so I can still putz around with Willard while I wait on kit. Engine runs decent enough but the wretched carb is too tall to shut the hood wih the OE breather tube assembly on it. Phooey!!!

Any chance you have the kit number or should I just em with carb number and application?

Soak it overnight in toiletbowl cleaner?

I soaked it for about 4 hours. Then cleaned it with degreaser and a toothbrush. It has a ton of pitting in the bottom of the bowl and some strange white substance on the accelerator pump. I did not soak the accelerator pump due to the rubber on the bottom.

I have to get a small putty knife to get the remnants of gasket out of and off of bowl.

Call them and tell them what you have. They will figure it out.
