yep, that piece is all plastic. It houses the oil filter and oil cooler. So plastic piece that has hot oil and hot coolant running through it located under the intake, brilliant! Mine was leaking oil and coolant.

New is not better. New is not worse. New is new.

Better is better; and IMO simple is better. The JL platform is nice, but I hate just about everything a PCM wire goes to.

A JL, manual, with a carbed SBC, flat dash and CJ7 wire harness sounds good but then I’d rather build a CJ7 for 1/3 the price.

The on in my Cherokee cracked that oil filter housing. Igo thome from work and the valley was filled with oil, it was running dwont eh back of the engine and coated the underside of it. Oil was smoking on the exhaust pipes. Iwas lucky it did not burst into flames. Drove it straight to the dealer (about 5 more miles). It took them a week and I don't know how many washings to fix and clean it up.

First year new Trailhawk. I abosultely loved that Jeep. But, when it hit its 3rd major mechanical malfunciton it got tradeded in. Everything was fixed under warrenty but I could not trust it anymore.

This fitting should only be snug, it they crank down on it, it will crack the housing. I have not had it happen, but seen it a few times.

It doesn't need to be farmer :censored: tight!

Yea, the problem is when people crank them down. Its only a couple newton meters if i remember right.
The one you are talking about was up to '12. They changed the filter so that piece is part of the filter now. Good thing is if you have the old design and it breaks you get the upgraded part.

My guess is your radiator is leaking. I "think" that should be covered under powertrain warranty. Very common and i did mine when it started leaking at 17k. New one is at 45k with no issues. Mines a '17 jk

Can you rig up a Pentastar with dizzy and carb like you can the Hemi V8? If you tear all that plastic junk off, and simplify it, it may be a decent swap candidate.

Well, they are dirt cheap since we use them in everything.
No spot for a distributor, but im sure somewhere oit there you could get some kind of pcm to make it work

Problem ive seen for the cj's at least is lack of adapters to get a dana 18 to work with the offset axles

Its a good engine I think, just a terrible oil filter location design... Im still angry about this, been avoiding this thread cause it still makes me mad:mad:
