Just a thought, my 64 Tux came with 15" wheels and had 4:27 axels, and the 66 donor I bought had 15" with 3:73 axels. I think if it had the 5:38 axels it had 16" wheels and the Military type tires. Just a thought. Good Luck

15" was much more common, but 16" was optional.

    Thanks guys!

Does anyone have a '62 manual or know of any written info regarding the wheels?

Very few if any CJ5s ever came with 16" rims. You can never say never with Jeep though and a dealer could swap anything around to suit any customer.

I grew up thinking 16" was normal, but that people went 15" because the smaller tires were cheaper.

15" as a "car" size was often on sale, 16" being a "truck" size never was.

Like Daryl stated, most CJ5's had 15" rims from the factory, but the dealer could order in the 16" size. I have only seen a handfull of 1960's CJ5's with 16" rims, but hundreds and hundreds that had 15" rims. Take the literature for what it is, but specifications often were tailored for advertising purposes.

My understanding is that the 15” wheels came with 7.50 wide tires for more floatation whereas the 16” wheels came with 6.00 wide tires. I know the 15” ones were optional equipment for the 2As and 3As.
