Jeep Lean, My Attempt To Band Aid?

Is the spacer 1/2" thick or so? What does it look like from the top?

Might have to replicate the spacer as it is an "official factory-spec part". (y)

Thanks for sharing--that document is gold.

    Well,it seems to have worked?
Used a 9in side grinder, cut the spring to bout 16in.
Installed on bottom of spring pack.
Put it all back together, looked close but didn't measure yet?
Took it for a harsh drive through the field behind house.
Back on concrete, got. The tape out, now she sits 1/8 in front,1/4 in rear ,higher on the driver side.
I figure things should settle over time? Seems to drive and handle just like before?
A tad less flex when I climb in?
Don't have to straighten her up now when I get out !
    Also weighed the 4 corners.
Drivers front 544lbs. Pas front 529lbs
    " " rear. 511lbs. " " rear 479lbs
    This was after spring mod
Pretty close to 50-50 front to rear!
    2063lb total,(maby 20-30lb junk in tub)
1008lb pas side 1055lb dr side
47lb off center seems a bit small to cause the 1-1/2in lean it had?
I think the soft springs and the fact that I ran solo lots of time, on farm, beating
It up on cow trails, lead to the lean?
Hopefully, those same trails will settle the 1/4in high side over time?

One quarter inch? Are you sure you aren't overthinking this? :)

    Not very exciting -

I have the peg somewhere. The hole and peg are 1/2" diam. The block is 1/2" thick, 1.75" x 3.375". This may have come out of my Jeep when I installed the lift.

    Limit strap in progress.
Gorilla glue epoxy on strap joint.
Gonna use pop rivets in strap
    , instead of bolt?

Jeep lean has been a problem on the cj5's for many years. Always wondered if factory knew about it why didn't they correct it, due to an engineering problem.

    Because.... it's not a "problem."

    Agree, not a problem!
But for all us OCD folks, it needs addressed !
Wonder how many 2018s on the lot lean?
I can hear the customer service phones ringing now? LOL

I've accepted the lean and leaks... I feel better and sleep well.

First test drive on road, slightly stiffer feel in front end,
A little less side to side rock. Tracks fine, hard braking goes straight.
Also took it to the woods, crossed some 10-16 in logs, flexed right over
them, just as before. Looking hard for any negative effects, can't seem to come up
with any yet? Might need to set toe? And center steering wheel,
It's been off bout 30degrees since build!

After beating on it a couple days on the farm, it now leans left, bout 1in.
OCD, maybe, I cut 3 more in out of short spring.

I say you jump it and see what happens. You never know it may straighten it out. All jokes aside I wonder if it can be made to be level ever.

I think/feel some of the Jeep lean is the spring shackle being to tight. Keeping the spring from returning to the correct position. When I took the spring off the Jeep I rebuilt, the shackles where worn from the spring rubbing against them

Excuse my ignorance, but I have 2 questions regarding this fix.

    1. Why would the spacer go on the high side and not the low side? It seems that the spacer would raise, but I guess it would push down, thus bringing the higher side down?

    2. is the purpose of the peg to keep the spacer from shifting? Or does it have another purpose?

Read the instructions from Jeep in this thread! Click on this link --> Jeep Lean, My Attempt To Band Aid?

The spring goes under the axle. A spacer between the axle and the spring lowers the body wrt the axle and wheel.

There is a peg (head of the spring center bolt) that locates the spring wrt the pad. The peg extends that index upward to engage the axle. Read the instructions from Jeep.

    Thanks.

    One other question.

Would this only need to be done to the rear spring, or both springs on the higher side? As it reads, it seems like only the rear. But I obviously have to fabricate these parts because I can’t find them online anywhere.

The Jeep kit in the service bulletin was specifically for the rear axle. You could do it to the front too, but you'd need different spring clips. There may have been a kit for the front. If you can find a source for old service bulletins, it may be there.

Realize that this will reduce the axle travel by the amount of the spacer. Read my "bandaid" comment earlier. I would ignore the lean.
