I used Brenan's plates. Good quality at a very reasonable price.

The dual master kit came in and it was not a lot of fun installing. Especially cutting out the factory mounting plate that is welded to the frame. And as with many things in this brake mod, 2 steps forward, one back. After bench bleeding the master and getting it all installed and hooked up, it started leaking at the plunger port. So Herm is sending a replacement, but this latest setback just killed any hope of doing the Colorado Fall Colors Tour this year.

Kick a guy when he is already down :( In southern NM now and will be heading to nieces wedding in Steamboat Thursday so will be driving right by Salida on 285 and will be crying the entire time. I'll be getting updates from the 2a thread.

Reports are that the trees are already changing in that neck of the woods. Grew up in Craig west of Steamboat and the family says it's already changing. Hope all the leaves are off before Elk season :)

Thanks for posting this Mickey, I am really thinking about this conversion for safety reasons and a performance upgrade as well. I just want the Mrs. to be safe if she wants to run an errand in the CJ. Thanks again TJ

Your welcome. The people at this forum have been invaluable to me over the last 3 years, so I'm paying it forward. Let me know if you have any questions. It's pretty straight forward, especially once you've been thru it.

So I've put a few miles on these now and thought I'd follow up with an update. While I was at it, I replaced the factory 9" rear with the 11" Bendix, added Herms dual master with the PV4 purportioning valve and all new brake lines. I did the initial adjusting of the rear and have not jacked it up to test the self adjusting to see if it has adjusted, but I can tell the brakes are much better. I haven't slammed them yet as I want to get so more break in first. Now I have tempered it with the state of the original 9" brakes front and rear were in horrible shape. Not so much the pad thickness and drums but they were coated in grease and pad looked a little glazed. Obviously, they are not up to modern standards, but so far they give much more confidence. After I get a couple hundred on them, I'll do another report.

Did you do the "repeated reverse and brake" routine?

Yes but only maybe 10-15 times so far. Thats why I was going to wait and jack up the back tires off the ground this weekend and just see if I spin them and press the brakes to see if they catch.

That should be plenty, if you got the adjustment close before you put the drums on.

I've got about 125 miles on now and still liking the conversion. When you figure the cost of repairing the factory 9's it's not much more to do this. And I get disc and factory 16" KH rims. I've tested some 'quicker' stops and I feel much better than the before praying I stop. Wife even drove and said much better. After I get another 100 or so on I'll try the emergency stop and report back. But for now I'm glad I did this and seriously considering it for my wagon.

I'll have to start buying the parts for the conversion this winter. I already have the brackets.
