Sparton Turn Signal

Hi all, I just purchased a Sparton turn signal for my 1967 CJ5, and the plastic lens is BLUE instead of GREEN for the indicator light.
The unit is in excellent condition. That being said, I was wondering why the difference in colors of plastic? Is it due to different models of vehicles that they were installed on, or did the factory run out of one color and switch to another?
The model # is SCS-3R, which I believe is correct for my CJ5.
The other difference I was curious about is the placement of a riveted on nameplate on some of the turn signals front. (Some have it, some do not) Any info. will be helpful.
Oh and I did read the thread about how one of the members restored his turn signal, and what a beautiful job he did!

My '64 and '66 are both green. I had a '57 many years ago that was blue.

I'm seeing a pattern here. Sometime in the early 60's they must have switched from blue to green.

My ‘61 had green. Must have been before that.

The first question is when did they start installing turn signal switches? Certainly not every old Jeep came from the factory with a turn signal switch. My '59 only had the left tail light when we bought it in '67 so we had the dealer install turn signals and of course the right tail light.

I will add that I don't remember what color the indicator lenses were.

FWIW all 3 of mine are Signal Stat 900's with green lenses. I would bet my wagon has the best chance of the turn signal switch being installed when new.

The reason I asked this question is to try and put my jeep back to as close to how it was built, but not to do a restoration. (I am fixing all the improvements all the PO's have made.) Mine came with a signal stat 900 chrome unit.
I'm glad there is interest in this, as all info. is helpful. That being said, I think that the blue lens is for earlier than 1967, but I am going to clean this one up and use it.
    Thanks all!

The lens color must have some significance to it, and obviously green must have been deemed to be a better choice for an indicator for the driver.

In modern vehicles blue is for high beam indicators and green for turn signals. Don’t know if they were thinking ahead that far though.

Blinking high beam indicator... someone tapping music with their left foot to the latest earbug from 1963... (Surfin USA? Ring of Fire? Surf City?).

I have 4 wagons (2 running, 2 parts trucks) and three have Sparton signals, the fourth has a GM column. Every Jeep I had over the years (in excess of 20) that have still had turn signals had a Sparton unit. I've put Signal Stat 900 series on Jeeps, but never had one come to me with one. I need to check my wagons for the color of the lens.

Sparton vs Signal Stat.....that could make for an interesting discussion on it's own. Were they both available at the same time? Was it a dealer preference when they ordered them? Was it an area thing?

Donny, were your Jeeps all from Florida, or maybe of mixture of from different states?
