Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by johnny and sandy, Jan 18, 2018.

  1. Hi does anyone out there have any really good close up photographs of the original Cardboard Defroster Duct Jeep CJ 5
Or can someone send me an original that I can use for a pattern. since I had good luck making a copy of the original cardboard glove box I thought I would try to make a copy of the original cardboard defrost vent.
    email JonLilleyStudios@aol.com
    Thanks

I found some plastic re-production defroster ducts somewhere, don't remember where. They were not perfect, but acceptable, and not that expensive. I kept a lot of my receipts, may be able to find out where I got them. I will look and see if I can find them for you. It's been 11 years now since I redone my Jeep and I don't remember as well as I once did. Good Luck.

Walck's is one place that has the plastic ones available.

  7. Hi I have the plastic one already but I'm trying to make the copy of the original cardboard one

I'm trying my best to restore the vehicle, and that's why I went to the trouble of making a cardboard original glove box.

I know I'm a bit of a purist but that's what restoration is all about. You don't substitute a carriage Bolt when originally they used a step Bolt and so on.You get the picture

The plastic heater duct I have, has a 3 inch inlet. The metal heater plenum has 2 - 1.5 inch outlets. You might want to check

Wow, that is a fine example of a cardboard glove box. I think I still have a cardboard heater duct at home - I'll will check.

Very nice Jonny, I understand your passion for original, and appreciate your work. I use my Jeep and it gets wet some times inside and out, so I went for the plastic ducts. I have a picture in of driving in a downpour in beamingpix, but still have not been able to connect it to my post. I will get it some day.

Where did you source the cardboard. Is it coated?
