One more question. While building my Jeep, all the holes for mounting lights, electric items where drilled, then everything was painted. Wanting to protect all metal from rust, everything is sealed. I guess I am going to have grounding problems. Not wanting to expose bare metal, I guess I am going to have to run ground wire to everything.

A shakeproof washer on the connection should be sufficient. There should be a ground strap from the battery to the body, and from the frame to the engine.

Starter wiring. Need to know where which wire goes on which stud.

Red wire, that will go on the big stud
Purple wire, goes to the ignition switch
    Green wire, goes to coil

Here is a picture with what is marked by the studs

i believe the s terminal goes to the start wire from switch the r terminal i think gives twelve volts when cranking to the coil.

Read on line, that the wire that is going to the coil, puts 12 volts to the coil when starting, bypassing the ballast resistor. If you have a HEI distributor, you do not need the coil wire from the starter

I drew this up for you (but I'm no Howard)...This is how my alternator is wired. I have HEI.

I know this thread is a little old, but on topic, rewiring a basket case if you will, and wat I'm looking for, only the other end of things. My wiring harness from Walcks for this 67 CJ-6 w/ 225 states that two wires, the alt warning light and the oil press ind lights (both pigtails from the indicator lamps should go to the ignition switch "coil" terminal. My ignition switch, 4 pole, is marked ACC, BAT, IGN, and the center although not marked I assume is the start terminal. On previous CJ-6 I had when the key is turned to the ACC (1st) position both the ALT and OIL idiot lights would come on, making me assume that the two pigtails are wired to the ACC position. Therein lies my conundrum!

    Q. Is the ignition (IGN) terminal the same as the coil terminal?
