A simple tip to cutting rubber at home is to do it wet. Reduces the frictional resistance exponentially.

That is definitely conveyor belt. Notice the thicker rubber on the top side, compared to the bottom side on the stack on the right. That is whats called the " carry side" , or the top side of the belt.
That is the side that carries the material. I'm a coal miner too.(y)

I use a hydraulic press and homemade punches (tubing or pipe) to make discs or punch holes in thick rubber. It takes the work out of it. (y)

Tonk was factory painted inside the cowl area. Back in the day some vehicles were painted at the factory by dipping the bare body in a big tank of paint, not saying jeep did that but it's a possibility.

I painted my tube inside with a brush after having it blasted. I made an new tub using a 66 cowl and a 71 box, and all new floor and under body channels made at a sheet metal shop. I used Chassis Coat, like Por 15, to paint the inside and under the cowl, it is a lot easier than trying to spray it.
