Here's Why You Should Replace The Rubber Brake Lines.

My new to me '62 CJ5 had a bit of drag from the drivers front brakes. I decided to pull the hub and take a look. After an hour of liberal applications of PB blaster, swearing, and a 9 lb sledge, the drum finally came off.

Everything inside looked fine but the wheel cylinder would not retract unless I cracked the bleeder screw.

After I snapped the steel brake line, disassembly was a breeze.

Here is what I found. I think this may have been the problem.

The passenger side had been replaced once but I did all three just for peace of mind. Bad news...the drivers side drum is egg shaped :(

Who makes a decent replacement drum?

The lining turns into a check valve. Fluid goes through, can't get back. Used to get in arguments when I worked at a parts store. Guys said no way that could happen.

It seems that some parts are to be changed periodically, like in a plane. Good to know.
About the drums, can be easily changed.
My brakes have been well repaired at my local pro-shop, because necessity to test brakes for the periodical safety control.
It works very well, not an ABS but you can be sure, if you anticipate, that you'll stop safe some times later.:rolleyes:

Walck's 4WD should have what you need. Don't just replace 1 on the front though, replace both sides.

When I bought my Jeep the lines had already been replaced with steel braided.
