I'm putting a hydraulic clutch in my '68 225/T14/D18. I pulled the trans/t-case this weekend. The bellhousing stayed on so I can setup the clutch. I was surprised to find a lot of gear oil in the bell to trans adapter/spacer, almost up to the big hole. Got a suction gun to get it out and found mostly water under the oil. I've done some deep water fording a few years back. So all this has been in there the whole time and I can imagine that every steep hill I come down this oil is dumping into my clutch assembly. Inspection through the back of the bellhousing I see everything is coated with dark slimy film. I would imagine the clutch disc is shot.

It seems to me there should be a weep hole in the bottom of the adapter/spacer to allow drainage of whatever water or oil gets in there. I'm planning on drilling a small weep hole. Has anyone had issues like this?

So I'll pull the pressure plate, clean it up with some brake cleaner and order a new disc. The T14 front seal retainer will need to be re-fit. Any suggestions beyond the norm to keep this from leaking?

You need to pull the adaptor and bearing retainer and replace the seal in the retainer.

Oh yes, the seal will need to be replaced. I guess I'll need to pull the input shaft to replace the seal.

Duh, I just realized that. It goes in the back of the retainer. Thanks Ron.

If the new hole you drill can let water out, could it not also let water in? I think I'd leave well enough alone.

The bell housing has enough holes to let water in. I'd like any oily water to drain away and not get into the clutch.
Doug, regarding the seal, yes, that is exactly what you said.

M715 trucks have a removable plug that sits at the bottom of the bellhousing. The plug is removable for fording and is to be replaced afterwards. So, you have the right idea.
