bench seats

Discussion in 'Early Jeep Restoration and Research' started by Tuxedo Park 125, Mar 15, 2005.

  1. How rare are bench seats?I have bench seats for my 64 Tuxedo Park CJ-6A (all 3).The drivers side seat adjust to move front to back.I never thought much about the bench seats till I heard all the fuss about finding stock seats. The covers are in good shape but need to be restiched.I don't want to sell but would love to hear feed back.

    Uncommon but not "rare".

I've owned one Jeep with 'em. MOP picked up a set for his '68 last year from another member here.

Even in the intermediates, they were the stock seating. Of course, if you bought no options, the CJ would have no passenger seat. Bucket seats were optional, but just about every Jeep came with them. I found the OEM buckets much more comfortable than the split bench; plus they have side bolsters that keep you from sliding.

The bench seat was like the 232 - only the cheapest of the cheap would opt for them.

The ones I picked up were sound, but faded and the "60" side was torn. I got a good deal, only paying $40 for the set and picking them up instead of shipping while on my way back from a vacation. I like them a lot and I saved a bundle considering I bought them for less than shipping would cost on any other seat.

With my stumpy legs and 5'10" height they are about perfect in the factory mounting holes, which is good because mine don't slide.

I have a set as well, just need to be recovered. Actually want to install them, but I'm curious as to what "factory" mounting holes you are referring to. My JEEP came with buckets originally, and I've been looking for the reference measurements for the bench mounts. Any help would be appreciated!! TIA :)

You can kinda see mine in my avatar. I like'em cause they are different than what you usually see. Thought I would miss having a console, I drove a K5 blazer in my teenage years (still got it) and the console was kinda like my teddy bear or something, I always had a bunch of stuff in it. With my jeepbox in back though I do alright.

I would be interested in a stock bucket seat just to see of they are any more comfortable for a guy 6ft tall....

Mark I love the 60/40 bench seats, especially in my Tux. Very unique with those early tux's. How 'bout getting some pics of what you've got up? :D :D

If i would have noticed this question sooner I would have snapped pics and taken measurements right away. I am leaving early in the morning for 5 days, so I can't help for now, but if you remind me next weekend I will.
