The pulley can be a PITA. make sure you can get the correct one an hopefully a bracket to make it work. Those are the 2 hardest parts sometimes.

Thx. I am positive I'll have to make my own bracket, I don't think one exists. I didn't know the pulley would be a problem tho. I'll see what I can find on the net.

For the 225? They exist... they're just not always cheap. Search for a mount from a Buick 350 from a ~1970 LeSabre or equivalent.

I just did that exact install. Starting at post 195.

You need a power steering bracket from a 67-70 Buick- Skylark, Riviera, V8

The pulley that works with the above bracket and stock dauntless pulleys. Amazon.com: Dorman 300-122 Power Steering Pulley: Automotive

Super simple install. The Buick power steering bracket can be kind of spendy. It's comprised of an aluminum bracket that bolts to the head, then the two steel brackets attach the pump to the head.

Keep in mind just cause that Saginaw pump looks similar to the vintage 70's pumps and for the most part they are .....................the mountings , bolt pattern and the offset to the pulley center line can be different among car manufactures use...............also depending on where your mounting the pump.............usually based on exhaust type.......either High or Low the distance between the head and pump can be tight..........last , if your using that short dropped Pittman Arm on the PS pump which more than likely you are........correct positioning of the steering gear frame mount will probably need to be different as compared to your earlier pictures whereby you show a much longer manual steering Pittman Arm.....

Not saying it all will not work..........just saying it all needs to be laid out before you move forward.

Boom! You guys rock. Thanks for the pulley link, that helps.

So I'm noticing a lack of enthusiasm in the idea of me making my own pump bracket. Seems like that's the best way to place it where I want it instead of where some pre-made bracket (that costs a lot of $) makes me put it. Maybe I'm not realizing some complication with making a bracket? Have you guys seen the Varg thread :D. How hard can it be?

    Tarry great advice.

After all the input I feel like my known issues are:
    • Different spline count and size on the steering box shaft to accept my existing steering shaft. Need to source an adapter. Shaft may also be the wrong length depending on where the new steering box ends up.
    • Existing steering box mount will have the wrong bolt pattern or the bolts are in the wrong spot front/back/up/down. Maybe this is good since I'll have to relocate the new box to the correct pitman arm location anyway.
    • Drag link, which I just finished cutting, threading and painting yesterday; may not be the correct length
    • Not sure the new pitman accepts the same size tie-rod as the manual. And it probably needs to be flipped to match my new flipped tie-rod setup.
    • Need to fab a bracket for the pump and get the correct length belt for wherever it ends up.
If those are all the problems to solve... I'm in, seems doable for me (y).

And the lower bracket that mounts to the head.

That's cool. Gives me something to go off when I make mine.

Finally got the tie-rod and drag link done. Had to order jam nuts from speedway to finish them. Hmmm, need black paint instead of just primer... guess they are not done.

Lookin' good! With that new power steering you might need that right handed tap a bit longer!

Man I hope not, I haven't picked up the power steering setup yet, really hoping the drag link will be the correct length. If not I'll have to swap you back the right hand tap for the left hand one ;). How are yours coming? All done and threaded?

One more to go, but I decided that I need to pick up a proper T handle to finish, and I think I screwed up one side of the drag link, so that may need to be redone. Then I got distracted converting my welder from flux core to mig. Need to pick up a couple fittings and it should be good to go.

The tube on the right is what I have left over, it's probably about 4" longer than needed for two drag links (1 for my power steering, and one for you if you need it). Let me know if you need a piece and I'll cut it off for you. Maybe you can use your messed up one as part of the power steering brace you were going to make, probably too short tho.

I didn't know you could have an old CJ with almost zero play in the steering system, it'll probably make me crash from turning the wheel side to side out of instinct.

THEN!!! I got my son to help me bleed the brakes. I AM VERY HAPPY ABOUT THE RESULTS!!! I have never felt this kind of pedal pressure in this thing before, it's just amazing. I haven't started it yet to see how the booster works but it's already 378% improved. Booya!!!!

And I'm knocking down my list slowly.

Did I mention my brakes are amazing?

Alright, you obviously have too much free time. Quit being greedy and share.

Thanks for the offer, I may have enough tube to fix my mistake and make the steering brace, I'll let you know. You definitely have to much free time, I thought about my jeep today. Maybe tomorrow.

Ha! The exact opposite actually . In addition to all that today I took my daughter out to practice driving her new car which is a 6 speed manual.

She's had practice with a manual transmission in the Jeep, and she has been driving this thing a couple times a year since she was 14 up at a friends cabin.

After that I would have got a lot more done, except I spent all morning finishing up the last little details on this so I can ship it out tomorrow.

Now I should be learning the songs I have to play at church in the morning but I'm procrastinating on here instead.
