225 V6 Fuel Pump

    Yes, I would start by verifying you have fuel flowing to the carb. If not, it could be a line blockage or vapor lock. Vapor lock by the way is when the fuel line is too close to a heat source and the fuel "boils" or vaporizes in the line. The other possibility as mentioned earlier is a weak pump due to the worn eccentric (may be the reason an electric pump was installed in the first place).

    If good fuel flow to the carb, then I'd check for a sticking float. You'll get it, just have to keep eliminating potential causes.

    I put a T-fitting after my electric pump with an .090 restrictor to keep the pressure up. Never had vapor problems in So. Cal. The North Carolina fuel is different and the Jeep was not happy.

    I have one of those heat shield for 225, so they do exist.

    I had to go to the way back machine for this. Any time vapor lock is encountered, it is caused by one of two problems, 1. low fuel pressure, 2. fuel is too hot causing gases to cook out of the fuel. In the flat head Ford days, which were notorious for vapor lock, the cure was to wrap the fuel line from the pump to carb loosely in aluminum foil and clamp some old fashioned clothes pins on it, the foil was a heat shield and the clothes pins acted as a heat sink, I suppose.
    Any device to keep heat away from the pump is beneficial, and keeping the fuel cooler is also beneficial.
    Recirculating fuel is another way of cooling the pump, modern in-tank fuel pumps rely on fuel circulation to keep them cool for a longer lifespan. Good luck!

    I have had both the 2 port fuel pump and 3 port fuel pump on my v6. With the 2 port pump , the fuel filter had 3 ports with the return line to the gas tank. The 3 port fuel pump had the return line to the gas tank and the filter only had in and out ports. Both seemed to work the same.
