Headers

    Personally I think headers are not such a great idea for a Jeep. Hot, noisy, leaky, fragile, short lived race-car tech. These are fender well headers, and you'll have to cut the front fenders and the collector will be under the floor, outside the frame. If you have to have headers, I'd say the block-huggers like Novak sells would be a better choice - Conversion Headers for the Buick 90 Degree V6 in Jeeps

    Yes they will fit..............and Tim makes all good points on the issues with headers..........except I have seen hundreds of sets on Jeeps including my own that have lasted for decades and Yes they can be Hot but any pipe running under the floor boards in your tin can is going to add heat to the interior...........notwithstanding that depending on the type of clutch linkage getting pipes to fit between the frame rails and the motor can also be a challenge on some vehicles. No one size fits all.

    Local custom exhaust shop could build a set of free-flowing inside-the-frame duals... you can pick the sound you like by choosing the muffler, you would have exhaust dumping at the back corners rather than at your left hip, and you would see a performance boost over the factory exhaust.

    Op-ed piece:
    +1 on keeping the manifolds, if it's up for debate. Headers really are hot, usually noisy and not always permenant. They have their place, just not practically in a jeep that spends its majority of time on the street, IMO.

    Another question. On my manifolds the prior owner stuck a long bolt in the bottom of the passenger side (I'm unsure but maybe this is to plug an AIR pump hole?) Any ideas or pics for plugging it in a cleaner manner?

    Headers, love the sound but hate every single other thing about them.

    hedman 69420 headers have a newer style collector . ball style no more gasket to burn out
    I can't see it in picture
    one of biggest reason for going to headers is . it's a easy way to clear up space for p/s conversion . at-least it was my main reason
    didn't like the header mufflers that came with the first set . muffler shop that redid my exhaust took the glass packs off and made tail pipes out to rear . much better

    All of the above. Im also at an age of trying to preserve the remains of my hearing. But... Headers are about the #1 thing you can do for Dauntless/ 231 performance. Their small valves really benefit from the scavenging effect.

    May be, but wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to swap to a V8 rather than hop up the 225? The 300-340-350 Buick small block V8 drops right on to the 225 motor mounts, and all you have to do otherwise is move the radiator forward. Brian Chuchua (my former boss) was featured in a Hot Rod article about his 340 Buick Jeepster. That was a TH400 Jeep, and a great swap, from what I recall. However, my feeling is the T-14 is not up to the power of the 4V 10:1 compression 340, but a V8 should be a more economical way to get that kind of power, if that's what you want.

    Those castings are set up for a heat-tube that I think may have been part of the choke system. I drilled out what was left of mine, tapped the hole and installed a fine-thread grub screw with some high-temp sealant.
