Damper/woodruff Key?

After installing my damper it seemed to me that it should slide in about a 1/8" more.
I left the woodruff key were it was after removing the damper and didn't disturb it before installing the damper.
The damper is 1/4" from the scale
From under the damper I can see 1/8" shinny surface as if the damper was previously in further.
I installed the crankcase pulley and the belts appear as if they would align.
The slinger is in place on the key.
There is no marks in the damper key way to show the key is stopping the damper.
For those that have a 225, is this look normal?
Although not as easy with the cover on I could still re-set the key if need be.
Or maybe I'm making too much out of nothing.

If the key was too high on the engine side of the crank the slinger wouldn't slide on all the way.
The slinger is keyed in the correct position.
The key isn't causing any issues with the fitment of the damper.
A torqued crankshaft pulley bolt doesn't suck it in.
The damper belongs right where it is on this engine.
    I'll button it up tonight.

Looks good. I went out and looked at my jeep and it seems identical. Golden.

Glenn, seal is installed correctly, and doesn't seem to cause any interference with the damper.

Mike, thanks for looking, I tend to think out loud at times. Good to know.

I figured it was, didn't know if there might be some kind of wiper missing? I would have been questioning that shiny clean surface too. ;)

Nothing missing. It did have a rope seal, although I noticed it didn't extend past the timing cover after removing the damper. Who knows how the rope seal was acting behind the damper with the engine running. The rope seal is the only thing I can think of that caused the shinny surface on the damper. Thanks, I appreciate the help.
