It would be nice to find out what they make those hoses out of.

If it's anything like mine, the rubber will go south before you know it, regardless of your fix.

If the same stuff as Omix shift boot then I suspect a compressed mixture of pothole cold patch, coffee grounds, and rat dropping. Somehow India lost the recipe for rubber.

I'm hoping to get some useful time out of it. In the meantime I'm looking at what is available through the auto parts store and online for a more longer lasting fix.

Your wire plan combined with a generous application of Gorilla tape may suffice for a while. Eventually I fear your cylinders will try to digest what passes for rubber in the sub-continent.

Mine had a wire in it. I saved it and put it in the replacement.

Ya' know...I've been real happy with Walck's over the years, in terms of customer service. They treat me very well and are very knowledgable. I like them very much. And I hope I don't hang myself here with the following comments.........but, it really cranks me that, as shown in the ad posted in this thread, they have circumvented exposing the actual manufacturer of the parts they are selling by listing the manufacturer only as a "preferred vendor." And I know that other parts suppliers use similar tactics so, it's not just them.

They all must realize that 95% of the Omix stuff is junk (some if it very dangerous junk, like the sector shafts). I realize that reproduction parts are often the only option for many folks. So it is. But all vendors should let the buyers know who the parts are made by. Maybe they know their sales will drop significantly if customers know the part is junk.

Same with the magazines. I have a hard time supporting magazines that support dangerous and poor quality parts suppliers. Though they all do so, it's hard to get any reading time in. It's part of the reason I've let my subscriptions run out. And my newest one I thought I'd try also takes advertising money from Omix. I'll have to weigh this one but, I may let it go as well.

    Sorry folks. Rant off.

Omix isn't in India, it's in the Philippines.

Update. The Aftermarket Repro Hose getting worse:
    Aftermarket Repro Hose.jpg

Found this hose and it works:
Air Cleaner Filter Intake Outlet Duct Hose Air Intake Hose Air Cleaner Outlet Duct for 2009-2011 Chevrolet Aveo Aveo5 1.6L-L4 Replace# 96808176 .jpg

The above hose is Air Cleaner Filter Intake Outlet Duct Hose Air Intake Hose Air Cleaner Outlet Duct for 2009-2011 Chevrolet Aveo Aveo5 1.6L-L4 Replace# 96808176

Hopeful it will last a little longer than the repro hose. Yes it isn't period correct. I wanted something that wouldn't require replacement every couple of years. If I ever come across a better aftermarket or an NOS then I will replace. Hope this is useful to others that might be looking for a durable air intake hose.

The one you found looks pretty darn good! I'll bet it lasts for a long time.

Thanks Glenn. I looked at the original date when I posted this and the repro hose lasted three years. The replacement hose cost ~$27 on Amazon. Repro hose costs ~$10. Hypothetical life of the Amazon hose 15+ yrs. That is equivalent to $50 dollars worth of repro hoses

I've got the universal ones that come from parts stores, they work ok but the original material is pretty flimsy.

Reread the entire post and want to thank everyone for the suggestions. Those suggestions lead me down the path to find the hose I purchased and installed.

This is exactly why I was looking for something a little more robust. After I installed the replacement hose, I started up the Willys and revved the motor. No indication of collapse or distortion in the new hose. :)
