I've got a set of fenders that have a large cutout on the inner fender probably was done for a large tire rubbing issue. The fenders on my jeep have good inners but rusty cracked and bondo filled outers. Is it a good practice to dismantle and weld back up?

    Thanks

That's kind of what I did when I rebuilt my 65. cut the tack welds took fender apart, cut out rust, weld in new and re attach.

The best way to disassemble is by cutting/drilling the spot welds. I use a Blair rota-broach spotweld cutter. It a very small hole saw that will cut one side of the spot weld, leaving a hole ready for rosette welding with a MIG.
It takes a little practice to not drill through both thicknesses, but really works well.

Just keep drilling out spot welds, and when you think you're done drill some more
