Howdy From East Texas!

That should go to the tube coming from the back of the passenger side exhaust manifold. Mine is missing too, but I'm gonna conver it to electric choke anyhow.

This is POR15, applied with a brush. Expensive, but a really durable surface. Good flow-out too.

Cut out the rust, treated the metal inside, welded in new metal. Not done yet, but good start


For the choke.... from what I understand, the red arrow comes from the exhaust, and connects to the green arrow, to warm the bi-metal spring in the choke.

 

Got the passenger side primed.

 

In your post #22 On carb heater. You may want to keep this system over electric choke. I have replaced that tube with soft copper line. On the 2GC there is a small hole through the heat spring plate for the carb vacuum to draw the required amount of heat from the exhaust manifold across the heat spring. A very simple and efficient (mostly trouble free) system. An X-Tyler Texan. You are going to have a very nice looking jeep to be proud of when finished.

 

Thanks for the clear pic with arrows! This it the same (or at least similar) version of the Rochester 2G that my Jeepster has. Since I, most likely, do not have the stock manifolds, I do not have an outlet to attach to the choke. The PO has converted the choke to manual attaching a cable to a shaft sticking out where in this pic is the centre screw. Does anyone know if I should put a hose with stop on the inlet (green arrow) or leave it open?

 

You need to cap it off. It does use SOME engine vacuum to draw hot air from the exhaust manifold.

Walt couch- honestly, id PREFER to use the hot air auto choke, but the fitting on the manifold is broken. Like everything else, I'm leary of breaking the fitting trying to remove it.

 

Also, I did this, and some suspension stuff the other night.

Not mounted yet, just kind of set in place.

 

Nice progress! Been limited with my time for my 71 right now, but I did get it moved out to my storage along with my Willys pickups and wagons. There's a shop right next door that has a ton o' room in it, unlike here at work where the hoarder Boss has 2 bay former gas station stuffed with crap everywhere. Hopefully, with my "new" brake, I'll be getting the 71's floors finished and then I'm gonna attempt fabbin' some Willys floors. I figure since the Willys are all the same up front, once I get a repair piece built I can make some permanent templates. I figure that would speed up any others I repair.

Okay... commando is done. It was 8 no the to the DAY from me towing it home, to driving it....

That includes a 2 month break when I replaced the floors in another guys jeepster.

Completely rebuilt engine
Completely custom wiring harness
Full roll cage
Custom dash and gauges
Later model cj axles with disc brakes
Upgraded cj AMC20 rear axle
This is a long list, so I'll let the pics tell the story....
























It's getting bigger tires... the 31x10.50 aren't QUITE big enough to satisfy me.
