Parking Brake Assembly

    I don't know of anyone that's repaired the cable assembly. I imagine you could make something to replace the cable, nut and handle using small diameter cable or piano wire, but it would not look like the original.

    I repaired my cable assembly (sort of). I bought a release cable for a different year, which was way too long for my 73... so I pulled it out of the sheath and cut it to fit. This gave me a T-handle attached to the hex rod that plugs into the release mount on the dash, and the platic 'snap on' guide that holds the handle in the hole on the dash. For the end that wedges into the brake assembly (that does the pulling), I simply drilled a hole in a bolt and fed the end of the wire through that and then put a nut on it real tight. This nut wedges nicely into the assembly. I have a new cable and handle... works great for me.
