At work I have a bench mounted bearing packer that I use a pneumatic grease gun with. Fast, easy, clean.

  2. I just use Valvoline tub of grease I buy at Walmart or oreillys been using it for years works great.

replaced the 'bearing buddies' I had with liquid hubs... had to swap some stuff around,, but at the end of the day it was not a ton more, and I could visually see the 90wt in the hub... much better, no probs for years after that... sold it just the same. drug that boat all over the place... (16ft lund pro sport on a shorelandr trailer with a 50HP merc - guess about 1500# fully loaded or so).

I have an attachment that works with my grease gun. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lil-65250 Not much less messy than hand packing, but it's fast and positive. Probably wastes less grease too.

I use my palm still too, but now I use nitrile gloves. Never used a bearing packer, but lots of people do i gather.

I've got a metal 2 piece packer similar to what Tim has. I've also used the palm of the hand method which works surprisingly well too.

I have a packer and also use my palm the packer is quick but it's never where I left it ! I was trained in mechanic school 30 years ago the fill the whole cavity to help carry away heat from the bearings, Its worked for me all these years and I'm not changing now. T.J.(y)

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with the "Bearing Buddies"........the biggest problem I've seen is the loon with the grease gun pumping to much grease into them..........

I have done both. If it is done right, the palm method works good, but I like the contraptions that are available for doing the same job. You just have to look at them and see which ones make sense.
