Getting Down To Original Paint

When I bought my Jeep it had been on the receiving end of a rattle can paint job. I kept the theme going and gave it a fresh coat and the often frowned upon rhino type liner inside the tub. Now I'm considering the laborious task of unearthing the original color. I'm not going for a restoration, but I tend to like old Jeeps with original paint. I'm not going to venture into the interior...It's staying as is. The fender mod will remain black as will the inside of the wheel wells...Basically the black accents are staying black. I know it's up to me, but is it worth it? Should I just put my energy elsewhere? Like pulling the motor and painting it and the engine bay?

Right after purchase and before my touch up paint job.

Spring Green, eh? That's what mine was originally, and I think I'll go back to it, once I get around to getting the tub off and fixing it....

If you mean going to the effort to strip the outer paint off to expose the original color it doesn't seem worth the effort to me. Especially would suck if you found out there were some bad spots in the original.....then what would you do?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Yellows and reds were very popular colors back then.
I like your idea, get to work.

Prairie Gold was likely your original color (code 413). Its a light pale yellow, and I think it fits the early-era Jeeps of our vintage. My vote is to go back to the oiginal color. You can usually find original paint up under the dashboard area, or on the firewall under the vin tag. Also look under the lid of the toolbox under the passenger seat.
If you like green, both Spring Green and Sprucetip are correct, at least through 1970 ( as new as my paint codes go).

The engine bay is all original, but the paint code sticker is missing.

Is the interior as it is seen in the first pic or did you rattle can that also? I think that would be the deciding factor for me. If it's still the original color inside, then I'd probably go ahead and strip off the new paint. If the inside is rattle canned the same as the exterior, I'd probably leave well enough alone.

    Flat green?
I gave the interior a coat of the often frowned upon rhino type liner.

Maybe I'll just put the effort towards fixing all the holes and dents?

Pull the tub. Sand Blast the tub and other painted parts. Do hours of research and pester paint manufacturers for info. Do a meticulous repaint to original color. Discover that this makes the rest of the Jeep look dingy. Work on the rest of the Jeep. Rebuild the drive train. Service the axles… generally go nuts.

    Or not.
