Wheel Balance

I hear testimonials for this type of thing often.
I you have these gimmicks and you're convinced they work, thats great.
Its as controversial as to whether to run nitrogen.
I've spent the last 34 years as an automotive engineer working on vibration solutions.
I've still seen no data that these work.

The math doesn't add up.

Find a knowledgeable tire dealer. Canadian Tire or Mr Lube should be able to help you .

 

Even back in the '70's they had some Hula Hoop things that mounted between the wheel and brake drum with ball bearings in them. None of these actually worked. We balanced many tires with tubes, no problems. Nitrogen, have you ever looked at what % the atmosphere we live in is made of? OK, back to my corner.

 

At what speed do you drive to have the need of "balancing' your wheels?
Are you sure that the problem comes from the wheels/tyres?
I understand that the 'dyna beads' avoid vibrations, maybe it is the same idea as to have a flying wheel at the exit of the engine counter balanced on expensive cars by an other wheel, I don't know the name in english.

 

Well my Jeep NDT tires are now balance (with a lot of weights on some of them - not funny beads) - Jeep runs very well - made a noticeable difference at any speed above 35-40 mph... lot smoother than it use to be.
Next... the steering.... I'll have a few questions but that's another thread.

Glad you got your tires balanced.
Too the nay sayers about balancing beads and rings they have been around in industry for years.
The tire balancing rings have been around since the 70's and there are alot of them still used daily and even on new rigs, I see them all the time. Snake oil, not even close, check to see how a cd is balanced at hi speed in your computer. Wheel balancers for some grinding wheels work the same way and have since the 50's, they are also on quite a few washing machines. Oh and yes there was in the 70's and 80's a liquid you put in tires to balance the tire but it was very corrosive on steel wheels so it didn't last long.

 

I'm going to try the Dynabeads. I've never been able to properly balance my 33" BFG's. I never knew about the beads before...

 

I heard big rigs use golf balls. Probrobly before they had special things like dynabeads. But stuff rolling around in the tires all time wears out the inside of the tire also. Probrobly more of a problem on big rigs that get over 100k on a tire

 

we use a bag o powder of some sort in the floats on the dump trucks...the tire guy brings it

Tried the inside tire balancing once, could not hold the truck on the road it vibrated so bad. Went to a friends shop cleaned the junk out and balanced them with weights. Had no issue with vibration after that. Figure they might work fine on a tire that only needed up to an ounce of weight. Definitely not sold on them beads myself.

 

With tubes in the tire - the tube are now scrapped in the eventuality that one does not like the beads.

 

FWIW, I used ceramic balancing beads on my tires when I switched to beadlock rims. I used 8oz in each tire and I've never had a smoother ride. My old rims had a LOT of lead weights on the rims. There are very specific amounts of balancing beads used based on tire size. Just saying.
