Some progress on the office stereo - gutted, polished up the wood, cleaned up the knobs, and changed out the speaker grill fabric.

I was worried about where to find some fabric that was both open-weave and period-correct looking. Would you believe Walmart placemats?

Followup on my scratch-built dump trailer, built in April using a 1930's crank-up body and shortened mobile home axles and some channel... (Post #491 above)

Working great! Tracks perfectly with a two ton load, dumps in 15 seconds by cranking with one hand. It's nice when things work out

It's a tough room lighting-wise, but here's a crappy photo of how the office stereo came out.

    Basically I
    • gutted the original radio parts
    • replaced the speaker drivers with some 6.5" 2-way Infiniti car stereo speakers,
    • added bass blockers
    • redid the speaker grills
    • added a bluetooth amp that has a subwoofer output,
    • treated the wood case with hemp oil
    • paired up a $55 8" Monoprice powered subwoofer from eBay.
I always work with music on, so it's nice to have better sound than laptop speakers...;)

    Nooo not the 3b.

The bumpers bother me more than the wheels.

I didn't have time earlier to elaborate...

Friday after work I started my 200 mile drive home and 7 miles into it the serpentine belt broke in half on the interstate and then a fire broke out on the passenger side exhaust manifold from some debris. I managed to put that out and cut a ratchet strap up and wrapped it around the pulleys and that lasted one mile before it broke. Anyhow it took 7 hours to fix and then drive home. Part of the new serpentine belt shredded a mile from the parts store but I said screw it, if it breaks I'll drive until the thing melts down. It held together and after arrival, I started searching for something else.

I was going to buy a Tacoma but it sold so I test drove a few different trucks and then I found the JK.
Always said I wouldn't buy one of these darn things but here we are. The only things I know is it's an 07 Rubicon with a 3.8, 6 spd, NP241 w/ 4:1, and it has lockers front and rear. I thought the tires were 33's until a friend brought to my attention that they were 35's. o_O Sure didn't look like it. This is more car like than Jeep (if that makes sense). It made its way here from New York. Surprisingly it has no rot or much surface rust. Someone took pretty good care of it.

The acquisition of the 2A has spurred me to finish the M416. Or at least finishish. I didn't spend a lot of time on the frame. Basically knocking the lose stuff off then shooting with primer and CARC Green.
Ill finish the fenders tomorrow and have it assembled and out of the way leaving me with the 2A project.

Got the M416 mostly buttoned up. Waiting on the the trailer wiring harness to come in and I'll get the lights mounted and wired up. But as of now it's towable and pulls nicely behind the CJ.

Done a few things to the JK.

The old touch screen radio had to go.

Changed the transmission oil. I can almost guarantee it had never been changed before. I used Royal Purple synchromax. Shifts much better.

After I took it off road a small issue developed. After looking around I found the bushings were worn on the control arms. Rock Auto had a special on the upper and lower adjustable control arms from Rancho. I took a wild guess on the adjustments and got the caster right around 4* which is perfect. Also threw on a Rancho steering stabilizer since the old one didn't work anymore. I measured and found it has a 3" lift.

After pulling into work yesterday my radiator tank split at the seam so I had to replace that.

Found this guy under the old radiator.

Still need to get tires, shocks, etc.

That looks soo much like the one I rented in Colorado. Every post of it makes me smile and hear an annoying squeak from the rear door.

Funny, it has a brake squeak in the rear and rear door rattle (hinges) but I only hear those when the radio isn't on.
Someone installed a nice set of speakers in this and they can drown out all those unpleasant noises. :rockn:

Didn't make much progress on the CJ2A today other than pulling the radiator, hope to have the engine out tomorrow as all that's keeping it in right now is the mount bolts.

I did basically finish the M416 with exception of registration and 4 reflectors which are on order as of today. I went to the Tax office today with my bill of sale and now have to jump though a bunch of hoops because it's never been registered in Texas, even though it was owned by the Texas Forest Service at one point.

I got the lights installed and working, had to make my own angle iron brackets, install 12v bulbs in place of the 24 volt bulbs and wire into the "civilian" harness, etched my new data plates and riveted them in place.

I pickd up a few 125cc chinese pocket bikes today for $50. Looks like almost everything is there to put them both back together but if not iv got some ideas for the second one.

I finally got my '67 Mustang working pretty good! THe new Unisteer power steering rack n pinion is a much better system than the Flaming river one that I had. Plus I fixed the valve cover leak.
Gary n I took the Stang to the Nifty50ees last evening for a nice drive and met lots of wonderful people there! Next week in Halloween for the Nifty50ees, hope we can go to it; should be fun!

Wasn't looking for another radio project - but came across this for $5 at an antique shop. Radio works, clock doesn't.

I couldn't find it, but reminds me of Steve Martin, on stage, pulls out a gas pump nozzle out of the blue, and says, "see this, 5 bucks!" ;)

BadGoat How High Can You Climb?

Now that we are settled into our house it was time to try to bring the old Ford truck down from Alaska. We are selling one of our properties in Alaska, so I was losing my storage space anyway. And we try to make an annual trip up to see friends and do some fishing. This summer we were going up for the first week in August. So I made arrangements to drive the truck back from Alaska to Virginia. The trip took 8 days, and the truck ran great the entire time. It had been sitting in our backyard in Alaska for 3 years, and I put a new battery and fresh gas in it, and she fired right up. I love fuel injection.

4,200 miles and 8 days. I averaged about 15mpg, and about 2-3 quarts of oil per day. Also has a transmission leak so that needed to be topped off a couple of times. I installed new shocks before the trip and it actually rides pretty well. She has a 15 gallon fuel cell under the bed and I carried 10 gallons of extra fuel. Only needed to use the excess fuel once.

1964 Ford F100 Custom Cab, 69 Camaro front clip, 351 Cleveland w/ Holley Sniper EFI, C6 transmission.
