    did a '58 cj-5 have hazard lights?

mine doesn't and I have to go get it inspected. I was just wondering if I could just BS my way through the inspection by saying that it didn't come with them.

My 1967 CJ5 didn't have hazard or back up lights and some factory manuals show the harness with and others without a hazard switch.

I think I'm just going to try to find a place that isn't the most scrupulous in their dealings.

I think that might be my best bet.

not that hazard lights arn't important but I would rather not deal with the headache of dealing with this wiring system

When I received my '55 a few years ago it had an O-L-D chrome Signal-Stat turn signal switch on the column which was not working at all (totally fused inside and to the column). I'm not saying it was original, sure looked old enough and the Jeep had never been molested. It did have hazards incorporated into the handle in a neat bakelite flasher at the end (I've replaced it with a shiny new one that has hazards as well which is almost as cool. (about $20?). My '54 CJ3B did not have hazards but had the common Sparton brand column switch which I have seen NOS in the Jeep brand box before. I think it was an option to get the nicer switch, if you wanted one at all. I tried to attach a photo, hope it worked.

My 1956 did not have them.

You might check, but I "think" that in some states, if certain items weren't original equipment on the vehicle, then you are not required to have them. Of course, YMMV.

Oh, and mine did not have turns or hazards.... '57 CJ5

I would say you would be "grandfathered" in and not need them.

Just like new cars need airbags they can't make you put them on cars built before they were required. Jeeps are considered light trucks so the requirements in the past were not the same as cars of the same vintage.

That's waht I was thinking.... that I would just be grandfathered in...

I have the spartan style turn signal switch.

I just need to make a run to the junkyard. for a e-brake lever and cable.. and I'm in buisness..

guess I'm lucky in Va. Registered my '66 as an antique vehicle and didn't have to have it inspected at all...cost $13.50 for antique plates and they never expire.

On my 58 I just had to have lights, turn signals, brake lights, and proof of insurance.
