After 2 years I am trying to start my engine for first time since I tore my Jeep apart. I have a 225. put in new fuel tank, lines and pump. now am having trouble getting it started. It turns over and fires with starting spray, but will not kick over and start running. I do not see fuel pumping into my bowl. do I need to prime or bleed air out of the system for fuel to flow? thanks

An old guy once told me to throw oil down the cylinders then wait a little.

Then to start it don't use starting fluid use gasoline in a small cup and pour it down the carb. A helper is useful for this.

I have down this but normally skip the oil because I only have the engine sit for about three months, a little gasoline down the carb and it will run for about a minute enough time for mechanical fuel pump to keep up. If you follow what am telling you please...be careful. I don't know if its best way or right way but it does work. I cant get an engine to run long enough on starting fluid alone.

If you do do this way a small tomatoe paste container with edge crimped works, about a 1/4 full then add some gas.

    Fuel pump working properly?

Edit: Could also be a clogged fuel line. How long have you let it sit?

Thanks all, Piffey, your suggestion worked minus oil...I also put more gas in tank. nothing like the sound of a V6

    Glad it worked,

Yeah the oil thing is weird idea for me, it lubricates the rings to bump up the compression but could see how it might inhibit the car starting.

Bumps up the compression, yes, but also seals and when the piston goes back down, increases the vacuum through the carb to draw more mixture.
