First drive; almost finished

Mike you just can't put a price tag on pride. It's very obvious that is not a second rate build. Congrats. I was 10 when I drove a 2a in the hay fields so your daughter is not far from it.

Beautiful jeep. You should be really proud of that! As my own kid will tell you, it's AWESOME to have a jeep in the family!

 

Thanks Everyone!!! I am enjoying driving it, I wish it would warm up though. I drove it to work yesterday morning in 30* weather yesterday morning.

The tires are Super Swamper LTB's 34x10.5x17.

That is one beautiful looking Jeep...if that were mine I think I wouldnt want to drive it because it looks so sweet...hope you are having a blast driving it...

Mike - Congrats on driving it. It is stuff like this that gives me hope that my pile of parts will be on the road some day...

One question, why the hubs on all 4 wheels? Plan on flat towing it?

 

aallison, When I was building my jeep, my front alxe was bent. A member her (Coby61) had these axles with disk brakes, a lockright in the rear with the Warn full floater kit installed. I bought both axles and replaced the bearings and gave them both some much needed attention. It is my understanding that if you were to break an axle shaft in the rear, you just unlock that side hub. With an open carrier, the wheel with the least resistance would want to turn, therefore the locker in the rear would make your unbroken side be your drive wheel........ I dont plan on breaking any axle shafts, but I think is has a cool factor.

 

Towing is it's most useful thing for the full-floater IMO, but it allows the old 19 & 10 spline housings to be upgraded to a stronger axle as well. Breaking an axle in the rear is the same as having one side unlocked. With an open diff, you will go nowhere. With a locking DIFFERENTIAL, not a hub, you can still drive it. We broke an axle in the MB and drove it probably 6 month before we knew it. With the full float 23, it made no noise or acted any different. Until you got in the mud or tried to climb a steep hill, and it would get stuck. In places you used to drive all the time. When looking out the driver's side, the left rear was always spinning. But after getting it stuck and having a spotter on the passenger side, it was clear what had happened.

 

Just needs :v6: badges and it's perfect! Top notch!

 

I'm drooling and I think that I just soiled myself. That is how nice that 6 is. Damn, you gave me some more motivation to sleep less and work on my 6 more.

I know what you went through. I have been building my CJ6 since 2008 and every year I'd tell my boys "this is the year we get it on the road". I'm just about to get mine into paint finally with the chassis completed including powertrain. Glad you hung in there and didn't sell off your project like so many do - keeps the rest of us motivated!
